On or leading up to Sept 21st, let us celebrate St. Andrew High School's 86th birthday by wearing SAHS paraphernalia and or posting a photo of yourself with a brief caption and graduation year directly to the Museum's Facebook wall. [Non-Facebookers, please send pictures to sahsmuseum@gmail.com]. Photographs could be an
'Andrews' badge (actual or printed), SAHS graduation ring, SAHS beret or tie (from uniforms over the 85-year period)
or school colors (in your decade), at home, work or play, in quirky or
regular settings.
SAMPLE CAPTION:
NOTE: All submissions received will be compiled, bound and displayed in our Museum. Just think this could be your first archived piece on display in a museum for all to see including visitors from across the globe!

1925 Happenings
St. Louis, Mississippi was known as the entertainment and tourist city around the 1920s. Beautiful music from the Arcadia Peacock Orchestra of St. Louis would likely have been heard.
From the Radio Museum, it was noted where "radios were significantly more
expensive in the original purchase as well as in the daily operation for
which reason crystal receivers enjoyed great popularity in the early '20s. For the same reason, namely cost, many a radio was assembled in
do-it-yourself fashion." Before long the St. Louis beat made its way to Jamaica.
Interestingly, research revealed that the original Broadway play, The Vagabond King*, opened at the Casino Theatre on September 21, 1925 the very day Jamaica High School for Girls (now St. Andrew High School) opened her gates! To give another perspective on the sights and sounds from that period, have a go with the video clip below: -
*It starred Dennis King as Villon and Carolyn Thomson as Katherine and ran for a successful 511 performances at the Casino Theatre (the first theatre in New York City to be lit entirely by electricity).

SAHS
alumna and former SAHS teacher, Diane
Browne (nee Aiken), recently won the Commonwealth Foundation's special prize in the 2011Commonwealth

leaves little room to wonder about the colour featured on the cover of her
latest novel, Island
Princess in Brooklyn. It is perfect for little girls
aged 10-13 (daughters, nieces &/ god-daughters). Be sure to get a
copy. We are exceedingly proud of Diane!
NEXT SUNDAY's FEATURE: Ashley-Jade Grennell, Zara Henry, Narique McIntosh & Linet Reid, the four (4) SAHS ladies who recently gained distinctions in nine (9) CXC/CSEC subjects. Don't miss out!
