Collective memories and musings about the world's only high school museum featuring the rich and evolving history of St. Andrew High women and how they have been living "LIFE MORE ABUNDANT".

Award winning Writer with Grade 7 Students and 1959-1986 SAHS Magazines
It was a day like no other. For surely these first formers were awestruck by an award winning Author in their midst.
Diane Browne with St. Andrew High Grade 7 students
To get settled, the girls were quizzed on the uniform our special guest, Mrs. Diane Browne, likely wore as a St. Andrew High student. Dolls outfitted in St. Andrew High uniforms over the years, on display in the museum, were used as a guide. After careful thought the girls made their selection. "That one!" They emphatically pointed at the sky-blue tunic uniform of 1971-1990. Well they missed the mark but proved to be complimentary to Diane. Yes indeed all was right with the world last Thursday. Before long, arrangements were made among the girls to choose a question they would like to have answered by our guest. What followed has been captured in the 5.5-min clip noted below.
Full credit for direction must go to one of the most assertive young SAHS ladies we have met in a while. You are therefore invited to post your feedback on the girls' interview.Do you think they have a promising career in journalism and or the creative arts industry? They will be reading comments and hope you will make their day extra special by leaving a note.
The Happiness Dress
SAHS Alumna and former SAHS teacher, Diane Browne penned the award winning
Commonwealth Foundation entry, THE HAPPINESS DRESS ...CLICK TO LISTEN. Will readers join us with "We want more!" placards? So beautifully written and only in 600-words The Happiness Dress simply tugs at the core of every woman and every little girl who has ever received a gift that made them twirl gleefully. Could a picture book be on the horizon, we wonder? Browne shares more in her blog entitled Messages, meanings, levels and layers.
With Diane we believe Caribbean Children's Literature is in safe hands.Caribbean people writing their own children's stories can only lead to an empowered outcome - boosting self-esteem and confidence in our youth. School Magazines (1959-1986)
UponDiane's departure her love for time travel loomed around in our minds. Soon enough the idea kernel to revisit the past via school magazines came to the fore. As we flipped through the pages of St. Andrew High's 1959-1986 school magazines, it was abundantly clear that there is much to be learned from our past. Fashion mavens would be intrigued by dresses, hats, shoes and eye wear worn by students and teachers alike. They also provide a window to Jamaica's way of life, especially on the eve of independence. These 1959-1986 magazines offer so many opportunities for interesting comparatives and a sense of pride for having a repository of unique information to aid gender studies and research. Aspiring architects and engineers may even be tickled by the school's infrastructural changes over the years or one may simply observe trends in graphic design by viewing the covers of each yearbook. Today we share a few. Tell us which cover is your favorite?
